Decorating & Furniture/Nutmeg colored couches
Hi Andrea, my family room and kitchen are open to one another and they are a sea of brown. the couches are medium brown(not chocolate or burgundy) the kitchen cabinets are a brown. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Lenox Tan. I am looking for a color pallette that complements the brown. Red pillows do not look good with my couch. The rug you see in the picture is not working
I think you have more options here than you realize as most bright colors would go with the sofa and wall color you already have.
What colors do you like? Go to your local fabric warehouse and look at all the fabrics that contain tan and also the shade of brown the same as your sofas.
Do you like blue? Just to use that as an example, if it was my lounge I would buy one of the following fabrics:
and use that to make a padded panel to go across the top of the window above the blind:
I would use the same patterned fabric to make a bit of wall decor if I had a large plain wall:
I would also make one or two patterned cushions for the sofa:
I would then buy some plain blue fabric (as near as you can get to the same shade of blue as in the patterned fabric)and some plain cream fabric and would make some extra sofa cushions with that so as not to overdo the pattern in the room.
A plain cream rug would look nice (something like a sheepskin?) and would lighten the room a little.
You could of course also paint one wall (or a chimney breast or alcove) in the same shade of blue which I think would finish off the room beautifully.
I have used blue here because I think it would look good and I found some nice fabrics but you could just as easily use orange or bright pink or pretty much anything you like as long as you can find a suitable fabric.
