Decorating & Furniture/Paint colour

Question
Hello I am a first time home buyer and excited to re- do my recroom. I want it to be like a pub style dark and relaxing but in style. I have gold furniture in a seventies style and a brown vinyl bar. I have accented my couches in black leather pillows and want to add glass shelving for bar glasses. I have no idea on what colour to paint the walls but I think I want dark cherry laminate wood flooring. Any ideas? I thought of a khaki colour or maybe a dark chocolate for the walls. I also want black and white pictures in black frames with white matting. What colour would siut the walls to make it cozy and warm but look good at the same time?

Answer
Dear Lindsay,
Congratulations on your home. It sounds like you have a good start and some good ideas. Please go to http://rmdecor.tripod.com/cummings.htm
Here is an image that I have designed with your items and ideas in mind. I chose a dark red orange color that would blend nicely with the dark cherry flooring that you would like to put in. It is warm and inviting. This color is similar to what you would find in a pub. Here are some examples:

I also think adding a dark wood wainscotting will keep in with the look. The walls will look nice with the gold furniture and brown bar. I wouldnt choose black and white artwork for my first choice. Try something more warm and goes with the rest of the decor. To give it more of a pub style add things that would give people something to talk about. Antiques, thrift store finds, musical instruments. For the lighting I would add sconces and other lamps that have a orange gold color globe. I am thinking of something like these:

For decorative purposes to help tie in the theme you might want to add a wooden keg, coat rack, dart board, and mirrors. I hope this helps and if you have any other ideas or suggestions and would like to see it in a visual I would love to help. Good Luck!
