Decorating & Furniture/Wallpapering knockdown painted walls

I would like to wallpaper my kitchen but we have the new knockdown painted walls. Will wallpaper stay up since this is not a flat, smooth surface?
I hate to waste my time & money trying....

Hi Kathie,

Thanks for writing and for your question.  I hate to tell you that the texture used in the newer homes is not a good surface for wallpaper adhesion.  It's not so much a matter of staying up once it's in place, but it does not have a good finish.  The paper shows every bump and bulge.

How about a nice faux paint treatment instead?  If you're interested in that, visit for ideas, how-to's and general info.

Some three thousand questions ago, I wondered if I could really help. Obviously, I'm still here and still taking your questions. God Bless You!
