Decorating & Furniture/White Oak Floor Color and Foyer Tile Color

Hi, we have natural maple cabinets with emerald pearl granite countertops. Which color of stain would you recommend for the white oak flooring? Also should we keep this color for all the hardwood flooring, as we have having hardwood flooring through out the entire house, minus the foyer, bathrooms and mud room. Also what color of tile would you recommend for our two story foyer.

Many thanks,

Hello Dave,
I do like the combinaton of light cabinetry with the dark granite.  The contrast can be even more dramatic with a darker stain on the white oak flooring. This tonal change allows the floor to make more of a statment.

Try a mid-tone stain, at least 2 shades darker than the light maple cabinetry.  This will anchor the floor, make it more solid in feel and of course, change the entire appearance of the kitchen.  The cabinetry will become even more noticeable against the granite.

As far as the rest of the home...if this new darker stain works well, then by all means maintain the flow and continuity.

Tile for the two story foyer?  Why not a porcelain tile that actually looks like a natural stone.  There are some gorgeous tiles which have the look of travertine and even slate.  Visit a tile supplier and you'll have an abundance of choice.

Once you decide on the wood floor stain color, take a sample of it to the tile showroom to select a tile that best compliments it.

Good Luck!
