Decorating & Furniture/painting over ceramic tiles

is it possible to paint on ceramic wall tiles in the bathroom if so which paint could i use?

Many times the tile we were in love with starts to look dated or you may just be sick of the color. Thank goodness, it certainly is possible to paint over ceramic tiles.  Careful prep work is the key.  First clean the tile thoroughly to remove soap residue and oils.  Use a mixture of household ammonia and hot water.  Now prime the ceramic with a good quality primer/sealer such as Binz or Zinnser 1-2-3 Primer.  Ask your local paint store what they would suggest.  Now add a minimum of 2 coats of good quality paint....latex or oil depending on how much water will be on the tile.  Add two coats of urethane and you should have a great new look.  If you want your grout to be an accent look, use a small artist brush and put in the grout color when doing the intial painting. Do understand that you must treat this new paint with care...never use harsh abrasives to clean.  Happy decorating, JoAnne Lenart-Weary
