About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
If you are decorating your home on a budget I can answer most questions about what to look for when buying "good old stuff" at garage sales, yard sales or auctions. I can answer most questions about the refinishing, and repairing of wood items. I have had lots of experience in this area and made lots of mistakes over the years which I may help you avoid.

Experience
I have been haunting auction sales, flea markets etc. for 30 yrs. I have worked extensively at refinishing, and repairing all the old stuff I bring home. I also work for other people, and do repairs and refinishing for several antique stores.

Question
Hi Eileen,
I have a beautiful antique gold mirror but it doesn't complement anything else in my house.  I would like to darken it but I am not sure how.  Any help you could give is appreciated.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Venus
Nice to hear from you.
I assume you want to get a darker gold right?
I think I would get a bottle of dark antique gel.
This is sold in most craft stores. Its in those little bottles like our craft paint comes in.
One bottle is all thats needed as it goes a long way.
You simply brush it over the frame, then before it dries wipe back with a clean rag.
This way you control how dark it will be.
I would get a walnut color if you want brown tones or a black if you want black tones.
But do a small test area first as you can wipe it off it doesn't suit.
Great Question
Regards
Eileen
