AboutEileen Cronk Expertise If you are decorating your home on a budget I can answer most questions about what to look for when buying "good old stuff" at garage sales, yard sales or auctions. I can answer most questions about the refinishing, and repairing of wood items. I have had lots of experience in this area and made lots of mistakes over the years which I may help you avoid.
Experience I have been haunting auction sales, flea markets etc. for 30 yrs. I have worked extensively at refinishing, and repairing all the old stuff I bring home. I also work for other people, and do repairs and refinishing for several antique stores.
Question Hi there. I've had a moving mishap with my antique mirror and some pieces of
plaster have come loose or have fallen off altogether. What is the preferred
method of repair for this kind of thing.
Answer Hi Patrice
Nice to hear from you.
These frames are very delicate and this happens often.
Any pieces that can be glued back are fixed first.
Next get a tube of poly fil.
This is the name of the product as we have it in Canada but its nothing more than drywall compound in a tube like toothpaste.
So you fill any areas with that as best you can.
Then you must duplicate the paint..thats the hard part but it can be done with craft paints.
Really you don't need to duplicate the missing areas perfectly.
Its just enough to "fool the eye".
And once the correct paint color is applied you will not notice the repair at all.
I have done hundreds of such repairs over the years.
Hope this helps
