About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
If you are decorating your home on a budget I can answer most questions about what to look for when buying "good old stuff" at garage sales, yard sales or auctions. I can answer most questions about the refinishing, and repairing of wood items. I have had lots of experience in this area and made lots of mistakes over the years which I may help you avoid.

Experience
I have been haunting auction sales, flea markets etc. for 30 yrs. I have worked extensively at refinishing, and repairing all the old stuff I bring home. I also work for other people, and do repairs and refinishing for several antique stores.

Decorative Arts - refinishing a chandelier

Expert: Eileen Cronk - 8/9/2006

Question
Hi Eileen - do you know a product that I can use to give my inexpensive shiny brass plated chandelier a new look?  I would like to give it a brushed nickel or pewter look.  Also, I would like to be able to leave it in the ceiling while it is being refinished.
thank you,
Suzanne

Answer
Hi Suzanne
Nice to hear from you.
You can certainly spray paint the light with a spray can.
I recently wanted a pewter look for cupboard hardware and used a silver laquer..very impressive actually.
So if you are leaving the light in place you will have to protect the surrounding area from overspray and use painters masking tape around the light to protect the ceiling and also in the light holes because you do not want paint in them.
Make sure the fixture is clean before spraying.
Great project.
Good Luck
Eileen
