Experience I was the Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School in 1981. I served as a General Practice Resident at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 1981-82, and have been in private dental practice since that time. My practice is now located in Owings Mills, MD, a suburb of Baltimore. My studies at The L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Florida has enriched my practice and my patients. It was there that I learned the true meaning of excellence.
Question Hello there. My daughter is 10 month old and has had her front top four teeth in for about 4 months now. She has a good size diastema. My husband and i as babies had a very small gap. Will hers go away?? I understand they are baby teeth but i am wondering if it will close?
Answer Melinda,
Only time will tell. It is normal for the baby teeth to be spaced apart. The baby teeth are smaller than the adult teeth that will eventually replace them. It sounds like there may be strong hereditary programming for developing a diastema. There is nothing to be done about it at this stage anyway, so you might as well just enjoy the ride.
