Subject: pulling baby teeth

Question
My 5 year old has her two front bottom adult teeth coming in behind her baby teeth, which are loose but not close to falling out.  We saw the dentist today and she suggested we pull the two baby teeth, that they will not come out on their own because they haven't yet.  Does this sound right?  I would hate to put my child thru the trauma if not needed.

Answer
diane
this is quite common. if the permanent teeth are totally behind the baby teeth and the baby teeth just are not falling out on their own, then we quite often help out by getting the baby teeth out of the way. the permanent teeth will then move forward where they belong. go ahead and keep trying to wiggle them out. if you are getting nowhere, then it is not a problem to get those baby teeth out of the way. good luck,
