Question
I had treatment of root canal. My dentist has given me another appointmet to do permanent filling. A few hours after the procedure I bow forward to pick something from the floor. A stream of water ran out of my nostril on the side I had procedure. Today is day 2 of the same happening. I can describe as a tea pot is filled over a period of time and then tilted (when I am upright it fills and when I bow it flows not drips)
I am retired and diabetic. Out of interest I checked this fluid and it showed +ve for glucose.
I am worried and shall I make an early appointment or wait for 3 weeks untill my dentist comes back from holidays?
Look forward to hearing your advice

Answer
Hi Shahzad

This may be completely unrelated to the procedure, or it could indicate inflammation of your sinus.  This may just be coincidence or it could be caused if the root of the tooth is very closely related to the sinus and the procedure affected the sinus.

Give it another day or two, and if there is no change see your dentist.

Expertise

I am an experienced general dental practitioner in private dental practice. I have worked for the past 25 or so years in the UK, and own a busy practice in Stratford upon Avon, Stratford Dental. From early 2012 my wife and I moved to Canberra, Australia, where I have taken up the position of Lead Dentist in a large city-centre practice. I will happily answer questions related to general practice, and have interests in endodontics (root canal), dental implants, CEREC/E4D cad-cam dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

Experience

I have been a general dental practitioner for over 25 years, working initially under the NHS, but since 2001 have been solely in private practice. I run a busy practice with my wife, Lisa, who is also a dentist. I have also been closely involved in the training of young dentists, and have lectured to dentists on a variety of subjects, both clinical and managerial, related to general dental practice.
