Dentistry/5 yr old girl ped dentist question

Question
My daugther just turned 5 last month. I have taken her to my dentist since she was 3 and she would never let them look at her month. This time she allowed the woman who cleans the teeth to clean her teeth, but they could not get x-rays. The dentist came in and told me he thought she might have a couple of cavities, but he could not be sure without the x-rays. So he recommend I take her to a ped specialist. So I made the appt and took her. This dentist told me she had 8 cavities all in her back of her mouth 2 on the top left, 2 on the bottom left, 2 on the top right, 2 on the bottom right. Also that she had to have 2 root canals with 2 crowns. This seems like a lot of work when my family dentist thought maybe 2. My daughter does not complain of any pain, does not chew differently than anyone else. Wouldn't she be in pain if she had this severe problem. She is very good about brushing her teeth. Also this dentist said that they want to use consciuos sedation on her twice. I want to do the right thing but I'm not really sure what I should do. I am picking up the x-rays this week and bringing them to my dentist to look at. I just kept wondering if this problem is as severe as what this one dentist is leading me to believe. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Answer
Dear Dawn,
You are correct to be suspicious .  Crowns and pulp treatment on someone without obvious decay or symptoms ,  seems quite aggressive.
But be cautious. Your daughter could have some very deep cavities.
My suggestion would be: ,,,,,,, after your dentist looks at the x-rays , then make your decision.
Without being able to examine your daughter myself, it is impossible to be of much more help.
All the best,
DR. Moss
