Question
I had a broken tooth removed and an implant put in.  The pin was screwed in and allowed to stay in position for 4 months before the permanent implant was attached.  Ever since the broken tooth was extracted I had a problem with my speech.  I thought it was simply due to the missing tooth. After the permanent implant the problem continues.  Could this be a side-effect of the anesthesia?

Answer
Dear Tom:
You did turn to the proper specialist to evaluate the situation, however, it is, unfortunately, impossible to evaluate your symptoms over this limited forum.
Nevertheless, I will advise you on the proper direction.
Go to www.prosthodontics.org and locate a colleague of mine near you.  If you are having problems, please call me at the office and I will make the proper referral for you.
Go for a comprehensive consultation and have the Prosthodontist, specialist, evaluate the implant restoration.  It is not uncommon for restorations to create difficulties with speech, and with proper care, they can be resolved.  I hope that the problem is with the restoration.  If it is not, then you would want to explore the neurological avenue.
Best of luck,
