Question
Hello,
I am 22 year old girl.My problem is my front teeth are potruding in front. Its not visible as I am able to close my mouth, but have trouble in trying to keep my teeth together, meaning the two jaws dont fit perfectly.

I am hoping to rectify the problem by going to a dentist soon. However what i am keen on knowing is,how will this affect my face? Will my looks be enhanced? Also my nose seems to have got big due to my nostrils being pused forward coz of my potruded teeth. If in any case my  teeth are adjusted, will this result in my nose getting back to its old shape?
I am really excited because this could mean I can have better self confidence than before.

Thanks soo much.

Ashra.

Answer
Dear Ashra,

It is difficult to give you a definitive answer with out actually examining you, but I will try to give you some general information that may be helpful.

Yes, the position  of the nose and nostrils can be affected by the teeth and orthodontics can be helpful. Sometimes when the teeth protrude they cause changes in the shape of the jaw bone which may or may not respond to simple orthodontic treatment.

It certainly makes sense to get a consult from a dentist or an orthodontist so you can  find out what your options are.  Some patients who under take Orthodontic treatment, experience a  change in appearance  that makes a big difference.  After treatment, they can have improved self esteem and tend to smile more. Having an attractive smile can make a big difference.

Also, as you have explained your situation, you can not easily keep your mouth closed. If you bite is improved, you should be able to.

I hope I have answered your question and please feel free to contact me again with any future dental questions.
