Dentistry/Root Canal on Veneer

Question
Hello - I have just had a root canal this morning on a veneered tooth. When it finished I was told I would need reconstruction on the veneer, with 2 appointments the first ‘prep’ and the second ‘fit’. This sounds like I am having a new veneer. Do all root canals on veneers require a new veneer after? I wasn’t made away of this before and has now made an expensive procedure into an almost unaffordable one. Many thanks for your help with this.

Answer
Dear Ed:
No, not every tooth requires a crown after a root canal.  If you are talking about a front tooth, then if the access to the root canal was done small and carefully, then a small composite filling in the back of the tooth is enough.  If this is a back tooth, then a crown is prudent.
From your description I do not understand what was told to you either... are they planning to make you a crown?  or just replace the veneer?  why?
You should really discuss with your dentist what is that he/she is planning to do.
I am sorry that I cannot give you any more information, but this is based on what you have provided me.
A second opinion from an Endodontist (a root canal specialist) and a Prosthodontist (the reconstructive, cosmetic, and implant dentistry specialist) might be prudent prior to spending any more money, possibly un-necessarily.
Best of luck,
