Question
QUESTION: Is it okay if my dentist's hygienist does this procedure or should I go to a periodontist?

ANSWER: Hi Vi,

Yes, that's 100% ok.
Hygienists are trained to do these procedures, and go to school to learn how to do them. A periodontist, while more skilled, usually deals with more complex issues like gum surgery, etc.

Please let me know if you need more help.

QUESTION: Thank you. My next question is: I am on coumadin (1mg). My cardiologist says to ask the dentist. Should I stop the coumadin for a few days or is it safe to continue while doing the procedure of perio-scalng & root planing?

Answer
Hi Vi,

You definitely need to discuss this with your dentist before continuing with care.

Depending on your blood levels, you may need to stop the medication or not. Your dentist and cardiologist will need to discuss this to figure out what is the best care for you.

Good luck!
