Question Hello,
I have recently noticed a problem with my four front teeth, specificaly that there appears to be an indentation in one of my teeth at the gum line that seems to be receeding, right across all four teeth. Across the front four is a stain that seems to stop at exactly the same point down each corresponding tooth, and one of the two front teeth has a rough feel to it as if the enamel has corroded.
I'm not registered with an NHS dentist but am on a waiting list. I was wondering if whatever is wrong can be treated, helped under an NHS practice, and indeed if the problem is more serious and i should get it seen to privately if that is the case.
Thank you for your time
Alun
Answer Hi Alun
This sounds like abrasion of the teeth where a combination of acidic food/drinks and vigorous tooth-brushing wears away the necks of the teeth. This can easily be repaired but it is important to find the cause and eliminate it.
I am an experienced general dental practitioner in private dental practice. I have worked for the past 25 or so years in the UK, and own a busy practice in Stratford upon Avon,
Stratford Dental. From early 2012 my wife and I moved to Canberra, Australia, where I have taken up the position of Lead Dentist in a large city-centre practice. I will happily answer questions related to general practice, and have interests in endodontics (root canal), dental implants, CEREC/E4D cad-cam dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.
Experience
I have been a general dental practitioner for over 25 years, working initially under the NHS, but since 2001 have been solely in private practice. I run a busy practice with my wife, Lisa, who is also a dentist. I have also been closely involved in the training of young dentists, and have lectured to dentists on a variety of subjects, both clinical and managerial, related to general dental practice.
