Question Hello, Hi. I am 20 years old. My bottom 1st and the above 1st molars were
removed(total 4 lower 2 and upper 2) because he was not finding any place at
the back of my wisdom tooth. so the dentist removed those and now i
have braces.
But the thing is he didn't gave a bridge to it.
Is it necessary to get a bridge done?
Wl i don't know what is bridge 1st of all.
And ya is it necessary to have a bridge.
What wl be the total cost for the treatment.
Answer I really can't tell from the details given, whether you will require a bridge. Your dentist is changing your arch with your braces and may reduce the space left by your missing first molars.
You ask what a bridge is? When fabricating a 3 unit bridge, a dentist prepares the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. The prepared teeth are shortened by about 2 mm and end up being shaped to look somewhat like thimbles. A metal framework is fabricated to cover three teeth and usually porcelain is baked on the framework so that the result looks like three connected teeth.
Another option to replacing a missing tooth is an implant restoration. This option does not require filling down adjacent teeth. The implant is a hollow titanium piece that is inserted into the bone where a tooth is missing and a dentist can attach an abutment(post)and a crown to it.
Both of these options can be pricey and can vary in cost depending on who does them. The costs could run from $2000-6000. You would do well to ask you dentist about your options and whether a bridge will be required.
I hope I have answered your questions and welcome you to contact me with any other future dental questions you may have.
