Question i cut my gum while brushing my teeth. i have been rinsing with salt water but i don't think it is doing any good. now there is a little white circle at the end of it. two months pregnant. no insurance. should i rinse with peroxide?
Answer Dear heather,
Assuming the lesion to which you refer is truly a cut from your toothbrush, there is no need to take any action-- it will heal rapidly within a week, and any symptoms will resolve. I would advise against using hydrogen peroxide, which can be irritating to fragile new healing tissue. If it is painful, you can relieve the symptoms by use of a topical anesthetic product such as Anbesol, available at your local pharmacy.
Of course, if the cut doesn't heal within a week, it is probably not just a cut, and you will need to seek professional attention.
Good luck!
