Topic: Dentistry

Subject: residual dry socket pain and post filling pain

Question
I had a dry socket two years ago and have had continual pain in that area since, though not nearly as severe. I had a below the gum line filling (small) on the tooth next to it and have a great deal of pain, sensitivity after eating which lasts about two hours. I've used Sensodyne but it still hurts. The filling was 5 days ago. Any suggestions?

Answer
Caroline - You need a second opinion.  You might now have a periodontal pocket, bone loss or a combination of both. This situation can lead to a chronic pain and even the loss of another tooth.  Don't wait.  I believe you need to make an appointment with a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and not a general dentist.
