Question
hi couid you help me with a big concern of mine please i am not very good with dentist cause the last time i went i had a bad exprience i need to have root canal and i know it hurts cause i was meant to have root canal on one of my other tooth i was wondering if i couid have a genral anaesthetic while i have root canal

Answer
Dear sav,

You may indeed be able to have general anesthetic (or, perhaps intravenous sedation) to facilitate your root canal therapy. However, this would be contingent on two requirements:

1. Your general health does not present with any conditions that would preclude the use of general anesthesia, and

2. You can find a dentist who provides endodontic services with general anesthesia.

You may need to do a bit of searching to find a dentist who provides this service, because most dentists do not; the administration of general anesthetic requires additional training and certification. However, these dentists do exist, and a determined search will permit you to find one.

Good luck!
