Topic: Dentistry

Subject: is it safe to fly when a root canal is needed

Question
I am due to fly on holiday which will be a 4 hour flight and my back molar needs root canal is it safe for me to go on an aeroplane

Answer
Hi Chirs,

Usually there is no problem. The issue is the air space inside the tooth that can expand if the pressure in the plane is too low. This only occurs if the tooth is dead or the root canal is only partly done and, even then, is extremely rare with pressurized cabins in today's plane. You should be fine.

Hope this helps.
