Dentistry - crowns/bridge

Expert: Jeff Dalin DDS - 11/8/2009

Question
QUESTION:   I am in treatment for a crown replacement and a bridge. I am very upset because it has been  very difficult for the dentist to recreate me teeth?  I have sent them back 3x and now to a new lab. Also my temporaries look horrible and keep coming off the glue ect.  i have been to the dentist about once a week for 2 months now.  is this normal or should I be finding a new dentist?  I feel bad they are nice  but I think this is taking too long.  It has been 4 months total withthe extraction.  I am having 4 crowns replaced from 20 years ago. Do I stand my ground  should I feel like its my fault??? I am not doing anything differently any help thanks.

ANSWER: i can understand your frustration. this is taking a long time. has your dentist ever sent you to the lab in person to have the technician see you in person? this is crucial in these situations. maybe he/she needs to use a different lab. you should not feel bad. you are entitled to be 100% happy with your final restorations. talk with your dentist and see what he/she has to say about this. i am sure he/she feels badly but he/she has to figure out how to correct this and do it quickly. it is very difficult to switch in the middle. he/she has invested a lot of time in your case and i am sure he/she does not want to lose out on this. communication is key. i hope this helps.

good luck,

QUESTION:  Thank you yes the first tech was no good we sent to a different lab the problem I am having is the temporary bond is not holding I tried to by over the counter stuff but who wants to put your teeth in everyday Plus it does not hold  now  it has cracked because I tried to scrape out the glue and I cannot return till Tuesday. UGHH   I hope it is not effecting my tooth underneath.  Is it too much to ask them to make a better temporary?

Answer
it is not a problem asking for a new temp if the first one looks bad and/or is cracked. this is very reasonable. try to get in there tomorrow...but tuesday is not that much longer. there are different temp cements out there. some hold better than others. plus make sure the bite is not too heavy on the temporary. good luck,
