Dentistry - extra teeth hidden in the palate which behind the two front teeth

Expert: Joel S. Teig, DMD, FABOMS - 11/4/2009

Question
Hi Dr, my boy is 8 yrs....he is lucky to has 2 extra teeth hidden in the palate which located behind the front teeth. I had visited a dentist and she say minor surgery need to be perform inorder to  extract the hidden tooth. And this minor surgery may affected some small vein on the palate. Now my main concern is that.....shd i let him do this surgery or shd i wait till he grow older?
Pls advise. Rdgs: Tks.

Answer
Joyce - It is definitely better to have the removal of those teeth done now.  At your son's age, the bone on the palate is not very dense and removal is easier.  In addition, the root formation of the teeth is not fully complete.  If left until he is older, the roots will get longer and the tooth may be more difficult to remove.

So have the surgery done now and the results should be good.
