Question a couple days ago I bit down on a piece of hard sugar and hurt my tooth. it's been throbbing and the pain is horrible not just on my tooth but my gums around it and my upper tooth also. I have taken advil, tylenol, and alieve, nothing is helping, and I can't bite down on it. do you think i cracked my tooth or just bruised it?
Answer Dear Alison:
You have definitely sustained some trauma to your tooth. It might be cracked, but without proper X-rays and a physical examination, I cannot give you any insight. I do recommend that you go see a dentist, preferably an Endodontist (the specialist in root canal diagnosis and therapy).
Only then can any decisions be made. You will probably be told to wait and see how the tooth responds, but, again, you need to have this looked at.
Best of luck,
Dr. Zev Kaufman
