Dentistry/Large Milk Tooth

Question
Dear Dr. Myerson
I am hoping you can help me solve a query about my sons tooth.
He is 13 months and still only has his bottom two, middle teeth, one cut at 10 months, the other 11 months, the second (6-7mm app.) is almost twice the size of the first (4mm app.), though we can see no line or join on it (we do not suspect fused tooth). His upper central teeth are now 'moving down' though have not cut yet, but we can see these too also seem quite large (perhaps 8-9mm app. in width).
He also seems to take a very long time to 'cut teeth' from when they seem ready to erupt.

Do you think this is anything to be concerned about? Do you think the largewr size of his lower tooth is a worry? (It is also twice as deep as the other too - from front to back)

I hope this makes sense?

Many thanks for your time

Kind regards

Natalie

Answer
Until those teeth actually come through and can be examined it's really not possible to know what the situation is.  Even then, it's probably necessary to take a few x-rays to get a complete idea as to what is developing and if there is a problem at all.  Once more of the front teeth have come in it would be a good idea to have your baby's first dental examination and then you can get a better understanding of the situation.
