Question
My daughter is 26mo. She fell from the bed and hurt her tooth, and front tooth extracted. will her space of the teeth go wider?
when will she be able with her crown or fake tooth?
Will her perm tooth grow ok?

Answer
Dear Grace:
I am so sorry for your daughters mishap.  As a parent, I understand your concern.  However, the future is bright.  Since the damage is only to a deciduous tooth, which will be replaced by the permanent one, it is temporary.  The only problem is that the bone will close over the extraction site, and when the permanent tooth has to come out at age 6, it will take it longer to go through all the bone.  Essentially that is the only complication.  It is possible to have a temporary replacement made for your daughter, but which design can only be determined by a qualified dentist.
I would strongly recommend you go to a Pediatric Dentist (the specialist in this area) and have your daughter checked with a proper examination and X-rays.  You want to make sure that the permanent tooth was not affected.  www.aapd.org will have a link to a Pediatric Dentist near you.
Best of luck to you and your family,
Dr. Zev Kaufman
