Dentistry/Tooth # 31

Question
I went to a dentist for regular checkup. He says that my tooth # 31 needs to be extracted as the decay has gone below the bone line.
Can you pls tell me if its possible for only doing a root canal instead of extraction?

Answer
Extraction would be the treatment of choice. You could do the root canal but the foundation left after rct would still be compromised.Sitting and paying for a root canal then a post and crown THEN have a questionable outcome?I don't want that in my mouth,I prefer the implant,it's easier and will last longer.
