Question I have had a root canal done on one of my back molars. It hasn't been capped. The molar cracked today (Saturday)and I am wondering if I need to try and get immediate help or is Monday morning fine? I am experiencing no pain at this time. The crack is significant and is easily seen in a mirror. Is it recommended to take antibiotics to prevent infection while you await an appointment?
Answer Dear Charlie,
As long as there are no symptoms, there is no harm in waiting until Monday. Short delay will do nothing to alter the course of the treatment, and if there is no pain, there is no urgency.
Likewise, in the absence of acute infection, the administration of antibiotics is inappropriate and unnecessary, and does not confer any benefit.
Hope this helps...
