Dentistry - drank alochol after root canal treatment
Expert: Mark Bornfeld DDS - 3/23/2009
Question hi. I had root canal treatment 6 days ago. I drank alcohol 3 days after root canal treatment. After an hour or two I started to feel pain. I took painkiller and slept. Next morning I can still feel pain and the swelling started to grow. On the 5th day after treatment the pain was gone but swelling was still there. How will this affect the treated tooth. ....... thanks
Answer Dear Gary,
I very much doubt that the alcohol you consumed had anything to do with the flareup of that tooth-- it is probably a coincidence.
However, the delayed onset of symptoms of infection is troubling, and may indicate a less than favorable root canal outcome. I recommend that you return to your dentist so that the tooth can be properly assessed for quality of healing.
Good luck!
