Dentistry - infection and curved root

Expert: Gary Backlund, DMD, MSD - 7/2/2009

Question
I have an infection on tooth #3 and i have a curved root, should i get a root canal done or get it extracted? It doesn't look like root canals are very successful when done on a curved root.

Answer
Hi Im,

In our office, we do root canals on curved roots all the time with a VERY high success rate. Since I can't see how curved your root is, it's hard for me evaluate your chances of success. I would suggest that you see an endodontist for a 2nd opinion and then you'll know what your chances of having a successful treatment are.

Hope this helps.
