Question
my friend got a filling yesterday around 2 pm, and aterwards her cheek and jaw were swollen. Now here it is the next day and it is still swollen. Her novacain injection was givent to her on the inside of the jaw (top). Why would she still have swelling on the cheek?

Answer
She may have a hematoma from the injection or she just may have edema from the retraction of the cheek during the procedure .  These two conditions are likely to resolve. It is certainly advisable to call her dentist to let them know and ask them for advice. They are in the best position to offer advice.
