Dentistry/Dental implants

There are lots of different dental implants nowadays.  When getting a full set of dental implants (both upper and lower jaw) which is considered the best? I am talking about things like all on four, all on six, etc.  I am just talking in general as I realise everybody is different an not all patients will be suitable.

Dear John,

The "best" is a matter of doctor's choice and the marketing, testing and research efforts of all the many implant manufacturers.  And there are over 30 dental implant manufacturers.

My Periodontist prefers the Straumann brand of implants due to its long excellent track record and loads of research.  His second favorite is MIS.  My Oral Surgeon prefers BioHorizon for its design and ease of use.  Other top brands are Astra, Biomet and Nobel.

Most doctors who place implants will become familiar with one or two brands and use them all the time.  All implants, when placed properly, will have a 98-99% success rate.  So for you, the brand doesn't matter at all.  The track record of your doctor is much more important.

With regard to All On Four or All On Six, the brand does not matter.  All implants can be placed anywhere from one to 28 at a time.  Again, it is the expertise and decision making of the doctor who must decide what your needs and wants are, and use the right number, size and design of implants to suit his experience and your needs.
