3) Sir I have breathing issues/asthama/allergies, I could not breath properly. My nasal bone is also deviated, in such situation which test do you think are necessary before having dental surgery? Also as I have never undergone any surgery or anesthesia ever in my life yet

4) Sir can a person die because of local anesthesia?

Answer
Dear Human,

1. Extractions can be done with either local or general anesthesia.  If you are frightened of the experience, you can ask for general.  In our office we use a combination of mild sedation and local anesthesia for our patients who express concerns.

2. It is very rare that a person is allergic to local anesthesia.  In the event of an allergy to one, we keep 4 different types on hand.  If you are allergic to one, it is not likely you are allergic to another.  Again, if you are concerned, you can be put to sleep.

3. If you have never undergone surgery or anesthesia in your life, how can you know that you are allergic to local anesthetic?  If you want testing prior to your procedure, you need to see your medical doctor.  He or she will make the proper recommendations.

4. Yes.  But it is FAR MORE likely that you will die in a traffic accident.  Dying from local anesthetic is extremely rare.

You may want to talk to your orthodontist to find out if there is a way you can have your teeth straightened without you having to lose teeth.

Experience

Having attained over 30 years of clinical experience in private practice in Michigan, in 2001 I was re-certified by taking and passing the Florida State Dental Board Examination. After moving to Florida, I spent nearly 10 years re-honing my skills while working as an Associate Dentist for several large dental groups. In September, 2004, I was appointed Adjunct Clinical Professor at Nova University's College of Dental Medicine. I am certified in placement of Mini Dental Implants, and I am Director of The Florida Implant Center (floridaimplantcenter.com). On March 1, 2010, at the age of 62, I began all over again by buying a dental practice near my home in the Fort Lauderdale area. As sole owner and Chief Dental Officer of the new Nob Hill Dental Center (nobhilldentalcenter.com), I can now carefully provide dental care to patients who care, all within a caring, joyful environment. Over my career lifetime, I have provided thousands of diagnoses, fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, periodontal treatments, TMJ therapies, partials, dentures and extractions, and dozens of implants for my patients. The only aspect of dentistry with which I have very little experience is orthodontics.
