The text above is a follow-up to ...

-----Question-----
I have lost a large filling and have started care with amoxicillin 500 mg. 5 days ago with little improvement.  The pain has extended to my lower jam now encompassing the right side of my jaw.  What are the best alternatives to fix the tooth and relieve the pain.
-----Answer-----
There are no alternatives you either treat the tooth ie:root canal therapy if it could still be saved or have it removed.Just taking antibiotics and hoping for the best is a bad decision and definately not a definitive treatment.Get it taken care of ASAP before it takes care of you!(did you know that before antibiotics and root canal people used to die from dental abcesses left untreated it's no joke)
Good Luck,
Dr.RafaelMosery

Answer
If you remove the tooth the replacement could be one of three things.
A dental implant could be placed and give you back the tooth if you're a candidate and there's enough bone to support it.
Another option would be a fixed bridge if the teeth adjacent to the space could be used to support a 3 unit fixed bridge.
The last alternative would be to have a removeable replacement for this one tooth usually called a flipper.
I decribed the treatments in order of most to least desireable.
Good Luck,
Dr.Rafael Mosery
