Dentistry/FRONT BRIDGE QUESTION

Question
Had all teeth capped many many years ago, when they ground the tooth to a small point.  Sometimes needed maintenance/replacement but have served me well. Now moved to Florida where dental work seems very costly...e.g. $310 paid for Xray, exam, and "new patient thorough cleaning."  Now schedules $47 for "Re-evaluation."

Lower front two teeth missing and bridged to two teeth on either side for a six tooth bridge.  He already says one outside anchor tooth has decay and will need to remove bridge, fill tooth and new bridge for $5424....or much more if needs root canal.

I have no one to ask unless I call my WA State dentist.  Does this make sense?  Can old bridge not be used, repaired, or whatever?

Any Comment will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Joan,
If there is decay under your old bridge, it cannot be reused. You must have a new one made. If you have questions, by all means get a second opinion. See if another dentist finds this decay. Plus you also will be able to get a second opinion as far as fees go, since the fees you quoted seem so high. So make a few calls and get one or two more opinions. You will be happier after hearing what other dentists have to say workwise and pricewise. Good luck,
