I have 3 questions to ask:

Question # 1:
What are the risks involved with temporary cement in a bridge that has been in someone's mouth for a prolonged period of time such as 3 months or 6 months or more?

Question # 2:
What are the risks and complications that can occur with removing a temporarily cemented bridge that has been in someone's mouth for a prolonged period of time such as 3 months or 6 months or more?

Question # 3:
Do you have any reference medical articles, reports, or research, etc. related the above questions?

Dear Bill:  1. Temporary cement could wash out from under the bridge, leaving the teeth under the bridge more prone to decay.  3-6 months is usually not a problem.
2. Breakage of the bridge or the teeth underneath.
3. I have none offhand, but you could search the Journal of The American Dental Association, Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, or other dental journals or texts.  dd

In September, 2004, I was appointed Adjunct Clinical Professor at Nova University's College of Dental Medicine. I am certified in placement of Mini Dental Implants, and I am Director of The Florida Implant Center (floridaimplantcenter.com). On March 1, 2010, at the age of 62, I began all over again by buying a dental practice near my home in the Fort Lauderdale area. As sole owner and Chief Dental Officer of the new Nob Hill Dental Center (nobhilldentalcenter.com), I can now carefully provide dental care to patients who care, all within a caring, joyful environment. Over my career lifetime, I have provided thousands of diagnoses, fillings, crowns, bridges, root canals, periodontal treatments, TMJ therapies, partials, dentures and extractions, and dozens of implants for my patients. The only aspect of dentistry with which I have very little experience is orthodontics.
