Dentistry/Root Canal but holding off on Post & Crown

Question
I recently got root canal work done and the dental office just called to say that it is not covered by my insurance. I'll be paying that part of it out-of-pocket but they said that if I want, they can do the build up next week but hold off until July (when my insurance kicks in) to put in the post and crown. Of course, I'd rather get this done sooner than later, but would you advise against waiting for the crown work to be done? I'm just afraid i'll risk serious damage to the tooth if I wait. Thanks!

As long as the tooth is properly sealed in the interim you should be fine - just make sure your dentist knows you will be waiting for a while before having the crown done, so he can restore the tooth appropriately in the meantime.
