Dentistry/Root Canal problems

Question
I wonder if you could help? I suffered a head trauma about 9 weeks ago basically face dropped onto pavement I had concussion and alot of pain in my front left tooth, meaning I couldn't put any pressure on it and had pain when touching my bottom lip and nose.
My tooth has been moved out of place and after going to my dentist who did an x-ray to check for fracture and cold patch test on that tooth I was told to go back a few weeks later to make sure the tooth was dead to receive root canal treatment.
In this time my tooth has become discolored and i had the treatment 2 weeks ago the pain when I touch the tooth is still there (which surprises me as there is no nerve!) and touching my lip and nose is even more painful then before. I am worried that I may have damaged something else which has maybe been overlooked and to be honest scared of going back! Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks

Answer
Hi Elizabeth

Go back to your dentist. Don't be scared of going back, you may have an infection developing around the tooth, or it may be that there is a tooth fracture that wasn't evident on the initial x-ray. Either way you need to see your dentist again so they can sort this out for you.

Don't worry!!

Expertise

I am an experienced general dental practitioner in private dental practice. I have worked for the past 25 or so years in the UK, and own a busy practice in Stratford upon Avon, Stratford Dental. From early 2012 my wife and I moved to Canberra, Australia, where I have taken up the position of Lead Dentist in a large city-centre practice. I will happily answer questions related to general practice, and have interests in endodontics (root canal), dental implants, CEREC/E4D cad-cam dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.

Experience

I have been a general dental practitioner for over 25 years, working initially under the NHS, but since 2001 have been solely in private practice. I run a busy practice with my wife, Lisa, who is also a dentist. I have also been closely involved in the training of young dentists, and have lectured to dentists on a variety of subjects, both clinical and managerial, related to general dental practice.
