Question
Are sonic brushes better than conventional ones? Do they kill bacterial below the gumline by sonic waves?

Answer
Al, I'm glad you asked.  There is a distinction between sonic and ultrasonic brushes.  Sonic brushes may benefit some people who are looking for an economical alternative to the manual traditional toothbrush.  Ultrasonic brushes, such as Sonicaire Elite or Oral B - Braun 3D Excel, are much more powerful and are said to disrupt bacteria beyond the physical reach of the brisles due to ultrasonic wave action.  I recommend the quality ultrasonic brushes mentioned to my patients.

Best wishes.

Experience

I was the Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School in 1981. I served as a General Practice Resident at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 1981-82, and have been in private dental practice since that time. My practice is now located in Owings Mills, MD, a suburb of Baltimore. My studies at The L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Florida has enriched my practice and my patients. It was there that I learned the true meaning of excellence.
