Question
Hello, I believe I talked to you the other day about sores in the back of my throat.
I went to an ENT to told me they are swollen or clogged (I can not remeber which) saliva glands, and there was not much to do but wait for them to go down.
My concern is, I am in a lot of pain, can swollen saliva glands cause this much pain, or should I worry it is something else?
He did seem to do a very extensive exam, really looked around good.
I am 26 year old healthy female.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi R,
Swollen salivary glands can cause pain. I do not like the ENT's comment to wait it out. My question is why are they swollen? Is there infection? Then you need antibiotics. Are they blocked? Then you need them opened up. My opinion here is to go get a second opinion...either from another ENT or from an Oral Surgeon. The answer you received in my opinion is not complete enough. You need some more information. Maybe if you call that ENT and ask the above questions, you will feel better about his diagnosis. Good Luck. Let me know if you have any other questions.
