Question
Hi Jeff,

Is it important for children to receive fillings for cavities on the side of their teeth? I've heard of people needing fillings on the top of their teeth but I've never heard of people  needing fillings for cavities on the side of their teeth. A dentist I saw wants to do 6 fillings on my 8 year boy all of which are for cavilites on the side of my son's teeth. I'm suspicious if this is really needed by by my 8 year old son.

What is your advice?

cavities can occurs on any surface of any tooth. they occur quite often on the sides...particularly down by the gumline. did you have the dentist show you the areas in person? they are easy to see and can easily be pointed out to you if you want to see them. if you still have questions about them being there, then i would not hesitate to call another dentist and get a second opinion. you need to always feel secure in what is told to you. good luck...let me know if you have any other questions.
