I had injections into the gums above my front teeth yesterday. The places which were injected are so sore today. I need to have the same injections next week and am dreading how bad my gums will feel the day after. Is there anything I can put on my gums which will make them feel better?

At this point, the only thing that will make them feel better is some sort of topical anesthetic...benzodent or benzocaine in orabase(thicker ointment) or orajel (thinner gel). This will help. Now, when you go back next week, mention this to the dentist. Maybe he/she can use a different brand of anesthetic...maybe he/she needs to use a smaller diameter needle (higher gauge). See if any of this helps out when you discuss things with your dentist. Communication is key here..you need to talk about what happened and see if he/she can try something different for you. This information should give you a starting point for this discussion. Good luck (you will really shock him/her with this new knowledge).

From that description, it could be an outbreak of canker sores (from the trauma of the injections)...or it could be some sort of reaction to the anesthetic. Maybe call the dentist today and have the area examined. I cannot really give you any definite answer over the internet. It needs to be seen and evaluated in person. Good luck,
