Dentistry/Sore tongue from new crowns

Question
Had 2 new crowns put on bottom back 2 molars and my tongue is so sore from them.  I assume this will go away in a bit but what can I use to sooth it?

Answer
Dear Ms. Calabrese,

Any of the over the counter topical anesthetic preparations available at your local pharmacy will help-- Anbesol, Zilactin, Cank-Aid, and others. These will provide symptomatic treatment while your tongue heals.

However, it is unclear why your tongue would be sore from new crowns, unless they have rough or sharp edges or they are shaped in such a way that they cause you to accidentally bite your tongue. If your tongue soreness doesn't go away within a week at most, you should return to your dentist so that he can determine what the problem is, and hopefully fix it.

Good luck!
