Dentistry/Stubborn Primary teeth

QuestionMy 6 year old is having a difficult time losing his primary teeth. Many are loose but only one has fallen out since last summer. Permanent teeth are begining to erupt behind the loose teeth and they appear to be at odd angles. Our dentist checked him in February and said the force of his tongue and speaking would shift the teeth to their correct alignment after his primary teeth fall out. We were told to be patient but I don't want to be negligent. He complains about gum pain and there is minor bleeding daily. We encourage wiggling and flossing but nothing seems to help. Should we seek a second opinion or continue to wait until his next 6 month check-up?
AnswerI would for sure get a second opinion. I cannot give you any definitive answers without seeing your son in person. So have another dentist look...maybe even an orthodontist. If the teeth are loose but not coming out and the permanent teeth are coming in behind them, then it might be time to get those baby teeth out of the way. So do not wait for 6 months. Have another dentist give you an opinion. That is the way to go. Do not wait...why have anything bothering him. Good luck,
