Dentistry/Swallowed bridge

Question
QUESTION: I accidently swallow my gold bridge. Will it pass? Let me know. Thanks

ANSWER: Dear brent,

Assuming there are no sharp edges to the bridge, the most likely outcome is that it will pass through your digestive tract without becoming impacted.

Some patients are better motivated at this sort of thing than others, but you might wish to examine your bowel movements for evidence that your bridge has safely completed its journey. If you cannot confirm that you have eliminated your bridge, you should view the development of any abdominal pain or digestive symptoms with suspicion, and consult with your medical doctor.

Hope this helps...

QUESTION: there are some sharp edges on the lower portion. How long before it should pass? THanks

Answer
Dear brent,

Intestinal transit time varies greatly from person to person; it can be as quick as only a few hours in cases of digestive hypermotility (diarrhea, irritable bowel, etc.), or as slow as four or five days in cases of constipation, partial obstruction, lazy bowel due to neurological, intrinsic bowel disorder, low residue diet, or dehydration.

I would put the outside limit at one week. By the way, although the crown margins may feel sharp, their shape is not likely to perforate the bowel lining. I don't think you have much to worry about...
