Dentistry/TEETH

Question
My 5 1/2 year old daughter fell down and now one of her two top front teeth is slightly loose. It is still the original tooth. Should she see a dentist for it or just don't worry about it because soon it will fall out naturally. There is no damage on her gums.

Answer
Dear AL,

If your daughter does not feel pain from the tooth and no sign of infection develops, you need not make a special appointment, but should report the incident to her dentist at her next scheduled check-up. However, if any signs of infection ensue (swelling, pain, redness of surrounding tissue), you should schedule an appointment as soon as practical to assess the condition of the primary tooth and the nearby unerupted permanent tooth.

Hope this helps...
