Dentistry/Tooth extracted when to fill

Question
I have recent had my #19 extracted (the second to last left bottom).  Can you tell me how long before I have to think about placing something like a implant or bridge before the upper tooth starts to grow down into the gap.  I am 45 years of age and very healthy if this influences the answer.

Thank You,
Dorothy

Answer
Dorothy,
If you're thinking about an implant, depending on the condition of the bone, an implant could be placed as soon as 6-8 weeks. If you're going with the bridge I would wait at least 3 weeks for the soft tissue to heal.
Incidentally, tooth #19 is an important tooth, so I would not wait to have a replacement.
If I could be of any more help, please let me know.

Best of Luck,
Joseph Zelig, DDS
