Dentistry/Tooth filled never has stopped hurting

Question
My daughter had a tooth filled some months back and it has never stopped bothering her. She returned to the dentist only to be told there was nothing wrong and possibly could be related to a sinus infection of sorts. She has since been on anitbiotics for other reasons and the tooth still throbs and unable to bite down on it, now it has begun to bleed around the tooth...any suggestions?

Answer
Dear Lauri,

It is indeed possible that an unrelated non-dental problem is contributing to your daughter's symptoms, but the emergence of pain immediately after a filling procedure suggests that the problem is in the tooth.

Your daughter should return to her dentist and prevail upon him to assess the tooth further. If additional investigation by her dentist is not fruitful, she should request a referral to an endodontist (root canal specialist) for a more in-depth examination.

Hope this helps...
