Question
My mother has a severe toothpain, and I mean SEVERE. I think its from a partialy busted tooth, Is there any way to relieve the pain till she can go to a dentist? Over the counter pain killers dont effect it. shes tried alieve, Ibuprof., and a few others but none work. Any help you could offer would be helpful.

Answer
Tristen,

Your mother is fortunate to have someone like you that cares about her.  Unfortunately, the type of pain you describe is most often due to nerve damage within the tooth.  This will require professional attention.  There are no home remedies or OTC treatments that are effective.

Get your mom to a dentist.

Best wishes,

Steve

I was the Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Maryland Dental School in 1981. I served as a General Practice Resident at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore in 1981-82, and have been in private dental practice since that time. My practice is now located in Owings Mills, MD, a suburb of Baltimore. My studies at The L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Florida has enriched my practice and my patients. It was there that I learned the true meaning of excellence.
